Facing Sculpture: The Inner View
The photographs in Facing Sculpture: A Portfolio of Portraits, Sculpture and Related Ideas were made over a seven-year period. This slide talk is a fluid reinterpretation of the images in that project, including some new and unpublished portraits, anecdotally elaborating upon many of the portrait sessions. The photographic experiences are addressed on many levels. These levels range from logistical challenges to technical concerns, from personal interaction to aesthetic motivation, and from the sculptors’ own thoughts on their work to the photographer’s interpretive response. Given the breadth of artwork presented, this slide talk also serves as a sampler of the many genres in contemporary sculpture.
