I like to work purposefully. By this I mean that I train my focus and explore a particular theme. I don’t so much choose these themes as I discover them. Something piques my curiosity – whether it is a visual observation or a snippet of a conversation – and I realize that much more lies underneath. My exploration becomes a concerted effort. It is not unusual for these projects to extend over a five to seven-year period. The resultant portfolios may be the products of such endeavors, but they are also stelae, markers pointing to something else. For me, they point to insights and experiences that unfolded along the way.
