I was a Contributing Writer to ICON magazine, a publication at “The intersection of art, entertainment, culture & mad genius,” from 2022 until its demise in 2026.
One of my features appeared in every issue, portfolio, presenting one of my photographs, accompanied by a concise essay. I saw this as an opportunity to reflect on my more than 50 years of experience as a professional photographer. So, rather than tell an anecdotal backstory about each picture’s making, I chose to share what I learned through the picture-making process. My purpose was to share insights with other artists, especially photographers, who are at an earlier stage of their journeys.
Because I better understand my own thinking through writing, I have continued with these essays and will eventually publish the collection as a book. Over 40 essays have been completed to date, a sampling of which is presented below.
